Future plans for Lake House and Europa House Surgery, Leighton Buzzard
GPs at The Lake House Surgery (Lake Street) and Europe House Surgery (West Street), in Leighton Buzzard have been developing plans to merge into a single practice to provide and expand local primary care services as patient list sizes are expected to grow with new housing planned for the area.
NHS Bedfordshire would like to take this opportunity to advise you that plans are underway to join The Lake House Surgery with Europa House Surgery (West Street) to create one surgery. This would mean that these two practices would become one practice.
These plans also include the relocation of these services and staff to larger, modern bespoke premises in Grovebury Road, Leighton Buzzard, LU7 4FF, approximately one mile south of our current practice premises.
These new premises will enable patients from both practices to access:
- Modern 21st century health facilities
- Extra rooms for clinical consultations, including the delivery of some secondary care services
- Extra space for providing services above and beyond the basic, but essential, GP services
- Fully DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) compliant facilities
- Dedicated parking (including designated disabled parking)
- Their own current GP and healthcare staff
- A greater range of shared clinical expertise
- A larger number of GPs who can provide advice for patients on different specialities
- Staff from both practices who will transfer to the new practice to ensure continuity of service for patients.
Work is being undertaken to ensure that the new premises will be open from 1 April 2012. The new practice will be known as “The Grovebury Road Surgery”.
Both of the practices have recently written to all registered patients (aged 16 and over) to advise of these planned changes. A copy of the Lake House Surgery letter can be found here and the Europa House Surgery copy here.

How do I get more information?
Plans for the new premises will be available for patients to view in the reception areas of both practices from January onwards. Photos of the exterior of the new building can be seen below:
Alternatively, you can also come to one of our information drop-in sessions where you can talk to staff from both the practices and NHS Bedfordshire (Primary Care Trust) to address any queries or concerns.
