Healthier Together – Review of Acute Services

Healthier Together The ambition of Healthier Together is to ensure high quality healthcare services for the growing population living in the South East Midlands area now and long into the future. Our main aims are to:
  • Improve health services in the South East Midlands, making sure those services have a long-term future whilst making the best use and expertise of the healthcare professionals in all our hospitals.
  • Maintain services that are excellent, but also constantly improving services to meet the latest and highest quality standards.
  • Continue to deliver services from all five hospitals in the area.  These are Bedford hospital NHS Trust, Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Luton and Dunstable Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Milton Keynes Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust.
  • Provide as much care as possible close to home, but recognising that there may be extra travel for specialist care from newly-established centres of excellence.
  • Make sure that local doctors, nurses and other healthcare professions lead our health improvement plans.
  • Actively involve patients and the public in shaping any new proposals.
Over the coming months we will be considering how we could improve the quality, safety and affordability of a wide range of local health services. These are:
  • Services for people with long term conditions such as diabetes
  • Maternity services
  • Children’s services
  • Planned care including general surgery
  • Cancer services, and
  • Emergency services such as Accident and Emergency.
