Surviving Major Trauma – public engagement

The NHS has recognised the potential for improvement in the management of severe injury and major trauma and has committed to improving services for major trauma care, and introducing regional Trauma Networks across England from April 2012.

This includes the creation of a Major Trauma Centre (MTC), which for our region will be at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Addenbrooke’s Hospital) in Cambridge.

The MTC is a new service which, once up and running, will support the existing work of the hospitals in the region; because of this there will be no changes to current accident and emergency provision at any of the region’s acute hospitals and it is predicted that they will all become Trauma Units, continuing with and improving the levels of care they already provide.

The SCG has been working with clinicians from providers across the care pathway from emergency medicine to rehabilitation to establish the Trauma Network and how it will work.
