Freedom of information
The Freedom of Information Act was passed in November 2000. Under the terms of the Act, any member of the public will be able to apply for access to information held by bodies across the public sector, including Central Government, local authorities, health trusts, police, schools and colleges and many other organisations.
On 1st January 2005 the Act was fully implemented within the NHS, allowing a general right of access by members of the public to all kinds of information held by NHS Bedfordshire. Generally NHS Bedfordshire will be expected to meet any requests for information within 20 working days.
There may be occasions when we are not able to provide information, for example if the information requested is personal relating to a third party, business sensitive or relates to national security.
