Support for carers

Carers pack

Carers often report how difficult it is to find the information and support that they need to help them make the right choices in their caring role. NHS Bedfordshire and its partners Bedford Borough Council, Central Bedfordshire, Carers in Bedfordshire and other voluntary organisations have developed a carers pack and card which has been distributed to all GP surgeries across Bedfordshire.

The pack has bought together valuable information on a broad range of topics, including carers assessments, benefits and allowances, carers rights, taking a break and carers health and wellbeing.

NHS Carers cafes

Carers Cafes provide important support to carers and their cared for. Running on three Saturdays a month in Bedford, Biggleswade or Houghton Regis, the cafes offer a variety of activities and treatments. These included massages, facials, hairdressing, chiropody and activities such as photography and microwave cooking demonstrations. For further details contact Carers in Bedfordshire on 0300 111 1919.

NHS Carers breaks

NHS Bedfordshire is very mindful of the vital roles that carers play and the support they need to maintain their own health and well being. They therefore commission Carers in Bedfordshire to manage the carer’s breaks grant. Carers can apply for a NHS carers grant to obtain a break from their caring role. For further information contact Carers in Bedfordshire on 0300 111 1919.
